Broadband ADSL is technology that splits your existing phone line into two channels. One channel is used to handle voice communication while the other channel is used for high-speed data connection (Internet access). This means that you can enjoy high-speed, always-on Internet in your home and/or office, and still make voice calls on the same line!
Your first step to ADSL pleasure is to get a special ADSL telephone line installed in your your home and/or office.
To do this you need to live in an area that has an ADSL enabled telephone exchange. |
| |
YOU WILL NEED:
- A Broadband ADSL modem or router
- A Broadband ADSL subscription from Red Cactus |
| |
WITH ADSL YOU GET:
- Lightning fast Internet and download speeds.
- Continuous access. ADSL is always on which means no need to dial up every time you want to connect to the Internet.
- The freedom to surf and talk on the phone at the same time.
- To pay a single flat monthly rate.
- To surf up to 20 times faster than a standard dial-up modem |

A shaped service is a moderated way that data is delivered to your computer through your ADSL line. Certain things are given priority over others, such as websites, are given priority over email being downloaded. e.g. If you are downloading your email, and surfing the web, you will get to the web page first before your emails have completed downloading.
An unshaped service has no prioritization of any traffic and operates on a "first come, first served" basis regardless of which protocol is used. |

A connection speed controls how quickly data gets to your computer over the internet.
384kbps:
A good option for 1 or 2 users browsing the web and sending emails.
512kbps:
Suited for a family or small office, this speed offers improved quality for radio streaming and video calls.
4096kbps:
Meets highest demands for quality suitable for large file downloads, gaming, video streaming and larger office networks.
10240kbps:
Ideal for large office networks with maximum speeds for bigger file downloads, and can also be used for voice over internet (VoIP) calls. |

| |
The connection speed indicates the speed at which RED CACTUS will send data to your computer.
This is different to your ADSL line speed which is set by Telkom.
Data only customer: Please ensure that you have selected a connection speed that corresponds to your ADSL line speed.
For example: if you have a 512kbps ADSL line and you choose an RED CACTUS ADSL product with 4096 kbps connection speed, you will only receive data at 512kbps. So please ensure both are the same. |
